What is the best electric coffee grinder for the French press

A lot of people asking me the same question: what is the best electric coffee grinder for the French press brewing method? My friends are looking for affordable coffee mill that produces a consistent course grind so the coffee has less sediment.

There is only one way to meet these requirements: is to use good burr electric coffee grinder, not a blade one. The burr coffee grinder crushes the beans in more uniform pieces than a blade does. With burr mill you can also adjust the coarseness of the grind until you get it just how you like it.

Krups Fast Touch 203 electric coffee grinder review

My friends say that the Krups Fast Touch is a simple, reliable and inexpensive blade-style electric coffee grinder for automatic drip coffeemakers and French presses. Another fact about Krups coffee grinder is that they are still doing well after many years of usage.

The compact Krups electric coffee grinder has a lid that fits snugly into the base, and owners say thet cleanup is as easy as wiping out residual grounds with a damp paper towel. The coffee grinder can hold up to12 tablespoons of coffee beans. This is enough for about 1.5 pots of automatic drip coffee. This budget-priced blade electric coffee grinder may not produce coffee that's fine enough for use in espresso machines.

Is it possible to grind coffee beans without an electric coffee grinder?

It might happen that you have some whole coffee beans, but you does not own electric coffee grinder. The question is – can you grind them without buying one?

  • The first option for you will be to try using a food processor. Be careful, because it might not work as well as specially designed coffee grinder.
  • Another possibility will be to wrap beans in a piece of paper and crush them with something heavy (like stone or hammer). The quality of grinding will not be perfect if you don't have access to electric coffee grinder this could work. Crushing coffee this way will help ypu gain some muscle weight :)
  • More finely ground could be achieved if a mortar and pistil are applied to your coffee after getting crushed in the paper.

Nothing will to it better than a good electric coffee grinder!

Prevent static electricity from keeping coffee inside your electric coffee grinder

I have a cheap electric coffee grinder. When it comes to taking the coffee out, coffee stays in, just like static electricity is holding it? Any way to solve the problem?

Here are a couple tips on the subject:

  • wait for a few minutes after the grinding process is finished and then open the lid. Time allows the static electricity to dissipate
  • another way is to moisten slightly a few beans before the grinding. Electricity builds up easier at the low humidity areas. Adding a small bit of water will reduce the charge.
